Many risks stem from equipment issues, which not only impact gas station safety but also directly impact its performance. Therefore, this chapter will focus on how gas station managers can effectively manage equipment.

To effectively manage equipment, one must first understand the hardware and software equipment involved in a gas station. This equipment includes, but is not limited to: fuel dispensers and their internal and external accessories, fuel unloading ports, vent pipes, manholes, oil gauges and nearby pipe jumpers, oil vapor recovery systems, generators, power distribution cabinets, oil sight glasses, static grounding devices, large billboards, entrance and exit indicator lights, canopies and their lighting (including logo lights), central control systems, monitors and computer displays, and firefighting equipment.
